When opposing parties in a lawsuit are citizens of different states (including corporations incorporated or doing business in different states) or a citizen of a foreign country, which places the case under federal court jurisdiction, pursuant to article iii, section 2 of the u.s. constitution, and the federal judicial code, if the amount in controversy exceeds $10,000.
